Microsoft Dial-Up Adapter

Problem: Error: The Microsoft Dial-Up adapter is not installed or is not responding properly.

Operating Systems: Windows ME, & 98

This error occurs if the Microsoft Dial-Up adapter is not installed, or has become corrupt. To install (or reinstall) the Dial-Up Adapter:

Before you begin...

Changing the Windows Network settings may require the original Windows installation CD or disks, or Windows system source (cabinet) files on the computers's hard drive. Expedient cannot be held responsible for any problems with the Windows Network configurations if these items are required but are not supplied at the time of configuration.

  • Double click My Computer, double click the Control Panel icon, and open Network.
  • If you see Dial-Up Adapter listed, click it once to highlight it and click the Remove button.
  • Click OK and choose to restart the computer when prompted.
  • Run the Internet Connection Wizard. During the setup, you will be prompted to install files. This will reinstall the Dial-Up Adapter and other necessary Dial-Up Networking components.

Windows 98

  • Double click My Computer, double click the Control Panel icon, and open Network.
  • If you see Dial-Up Adapter listed, click it once to highlight it and click the Remove button.
  • Click the Add button. Select Adapter and click Add.
  • Under Manufacturers, select Microsoft.
  • Select Dial-Up Adapter from the Network Adapters and click OK.
  • Click OK on the Network screen. You may be prompted for your Windows CD or installation files.
  • Choose to restart the computer when prompted.
