Speed Test

myStargate Diagnostics

The myStargate Diagnostic Agent detects and corrects configuration conflicts. Diagnostics are run automatically, some at system startup and others when the dashboard is opened.

The user can also run the diagnostic check from the Tools menu in the Dashboard menu. Tools > Run Diagnostics...

Diagnostics are comprised of two types of tests:

Windows Diagnostics Example || Macintosh Diagnostics Example

Network Diagnostics

Network Software Diagnostics are executed at system startup when the "confsvr.exe" application is auto-launched. Network Diagnostics ensure that DUN 1.2 (or better) is installed, the TCP/IP protocol is installed, and that the TCP/IP protocol is bound to the DUN adapter. Again, network diagnostics are only performed at system startup when "confsvr.exe" is auto-launched.

If any of these checks fail, myStargate will notify the user, and offer to auto-correct the problem. For this "auto-correcting" feature to work, the user may need their Windows CD.

Network Software Diagnostics check the following properties:

  • DUN 1.2 or greater installed
  • TCP/IP installed
  • The TCP/IP protocol bound to the DUN adapter

If there is a diagnostic failure on Windows 95 and DUN 1.2 or greater has not been installed, myStargate will auto-execute the DUN 1.2 (or DUN 1.3, depending on your build) installer.

For all other situations, myStargate will run the appropriate class installer to properly repair the network stack.

Note: If the user needs to repair their network software, they will likely be required to insert their Windows CD at some point during the file copy process. The user should not proceed if they do not have their Windows CD.

Permanently Disabling Network Diagnostics

To disable Network Diagnostics:

  1. Open the folder "C:\Program Files\myStargate Connection Kit".
  2. Open the "Plugins" folder.
  3. Delete the file named "dundiag.dgn".

Application Diagnostics

Application Diagnostics ensure that the user’s configuration settings match the settings stored with the corresponding myStargate profile.

If conflicts/differences are found, myStargate will build a list of conflicting settings, notify the user of all issues at once, and offer to correct them.

Application Diagnostics compare settings stored in the active myStargate profile to settings in a target application. If discrepancies are found, myStargate will notify the subscriber and provide an option to fix the problem.

About the Active Profile

The active profile is an important concept in myStargate diagnostics. It determines when, and if, application configuration diagnostics should execute and whether a user should be notified of configuration changes. The active profile is defined as the last profile opened.

How Application Diagnostics are Activated

Diagnostics are activated automatically when the active profile is opened. In addition the subscriber may activate Diagnostics from the Dashboard Tools menu, or from the Support Agent.

Note: Diagnostics execute silently if a profile other than the active profile is opened. If configuration problems are found, the application is reconfigured silently.

Application Diagnostics: Step-By-Step

If the user encounters a diagnostic error while opening the Dashboard, the following steps will occur:

  1. A subscriber opens the Dashboard (via double-clicking an icon or opening from the taskbar).
  2. A dialog is shown notifying the user of the diagnostic error.
  3. The user may click on "Show Details" to display which applications have errors. They may select or deselect from this list applications to ignore. The user may click "Hide Details" to show the simple dialog.
  4. The user may click "Ignore" to NOT initiate any fixes.
  5. The user may click "Fix" to fix any errors.
  6. If the user clicks on "Fix", a progress window will appear.

After all "fixes" have been applied, the Dashboard will open.
